I was thirteen years old when I entered my first dog show with my German Shepherd. I was very
shy, awkward and nervous but that didn't seem to matter when I showed my dog. I didn't do much with my Shepherd but it was the
beginning of a passion I would have for many years to come.
When I was in my senior year
of high school I had decided on the Cocker Spaniel as my breed. By the time I graduated I had bought my first red and white
Cocker Spaniel. But as with a lot of first timers, he did not turn out and so I signed up for an obedience class and shortly
after had put a C.D. on him. After many heartaches of buying puppies for show and not having them turn out, I finally got
my first show black and tan Cocker bitch, "Quest" from Linda Kumanchik of Tameron Cockers. "Quest" not only finished her
championship but produced many champions for me, missing being a top producer by one and also producing the 1990 black variety
National Futurity winner.
In 1992 I met my husband and was married in 1993. In
1994 our son was born and so I decided to put my dog showing on hold for awhile. In 2006 I decided to get back into
showing and acquired a black Cocker Spaniel bitch that was a great granddaughter of my "Quest". I bred her and kept a
dog and a bitch out of that litter and finished the dog's championship by the time he was eighteen months old. It
was at that time that I decided I didn't want to continue with the Cocker's anymore and started looking at different breeds.
In 2008 after 20 years of showing and breeding Cocker Spaniels I decided to change breeds and after much consideration,
I decided on the Shetland Sheepdog. I am so grateful to Shannalee Michalsky of Akadia Shelties for her friendship and guidance with
this breed. Shannalee and I both live in southeastern Idaho which makes it convenient to share dogs with each other, travel
to shows together but more importantly...have a close breed mentor. In the fall of 2009 I finished my first Sheltie
bitch, CH Weatherman's Christmas Spirit.
